Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made important statements regarding possible peace talks with Russia. Zelenskiy stated that he is ready for negotiations in any format if the US and Europe provide security guarantees to Ukraine. “If I had an understanding that America and Europe would not let us down and would give us security guarantees, I would be ready for negotiations in any format,” he said in an interview with the British ITV News channel.
Zelensky added that he believes that in the current situation there are all possibilities for conflict resolution. These statements show that Ukraine is open to seeking a diplomatic solution with Russia if its security concerns are addressed. US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said earlier that President Donald Trump believes that Europe should be responsible for providing security guarantees to Ukraine. Waltz also said that a meeting is planned with senior US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President James David Vance, to discuss the details of resolving the Ukrainian crisis. President Trump has said that the United States has provided billions of dollars in aid to Kiev and that Ukraine’s rare earth metals should be supplied to the United States. Zelensky called this request “completely fair”. After the start of the war in Ukraine, Zelensky signed a law banning negotiations with Russia. This law was an obstacle to possible contacts between Moscow and Kiev. Moreover, despite the expiration of Zelensky’s presidential term, the country was unable to hold elections due to martial law. This makes Zelensky’s authority to sign any agreements with Russia questionable. While Zelensky’s statements show that Ukraine is open to negotiations with Russia in exchange for security guarantees, the role of the US and Europe in this process will be decisive.
