Suspended South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s legal team argued that his impeachment trial requires no ruling, citing the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision granting immunity to Donald Trump for actions within his presidential powers.
In documents submitted to the Constitutional Court, Yoon’s lawyers stated that his December 3 martial law declaration was a constitutional response to a “national emergency.”
“As martial law was lifted within six hours without restricting basic rights, there’s no need to judge its declaration,” the document argued.
The team referenced the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision last year, which shielded Trump from prosecution for actions taken within his presidential authority.
