Vietnam has expressed its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue with Washington following the new 25% tariffs imposed by the US on steel imports. “Vietnam is ready to talk constructively with the United States,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson told a press conference. He also said that by addressing the new tariffs on steel, they aim to find solutions that are in the interests of both sides.

Vietnam is among the leading exporters of steel to the US and is directly affected by the new tariffs. US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose reciprocal tariffs could further complicate Vietnam’s trade relations with the US. Vietnam is experiencing a significant increase in its trade deficit with the US. In the first 11 months of 2024, the US trade deficit with Vietnam exceeded $110 billion. This shows the imbalance in trade relations between the two countries.
