The Foreign Ministers of Venezuela and Guyana reaffirmed their readiness for dialogue to resolve the territorial dispute between the two countries during a meeting in the Brazilian capital.
The G1 news portal cited statements made by the foreign ministers at the end of the meeting, which was mediated by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Report reported.
“We assure the Venezuelan side that Guyana reaffirms its intention to resolve the issue of Venezuela’s territorial claims peacefully,” Guyana’s Foreign Minister Hugh Todd said.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto said that “the government of Venezuela and Nicolas Maduro are ready to seek alternative ways that will allow us to reach a mutually acceptable solution.” The Venezuelan minister also said that he was satisfied with the outcome of his talks with his Guyanese counterpart and that he “looks forward to many more talks in the future.”
