Uzbekistan has imported about 300 million cubic metres of gas from Russia since 7 October under a contract with Gazprom, Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said. Mirzamakhmudov again declined to disclose the price of the imported blue fuel.
Uzbekistan has imported about 300 million cubic metres of gas from Russia. This was announced by Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov at the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum in Samarkand, Spot reported.
On 7 October, Uzbekistan began importing gas from Russia via Kazakhstan to meet part of the country’s shortage of blue fuel in the autumn-winter period. The gas purchase contract is for two years and the volume will be 9 million cubic metres per day, or about 2.8 billion cubic metres per year.
However, as can be seen, supplies are coming in ahead of schedule – it will take 33 days to reach 300 million cubic metres with the approved deliveries (9 million cubic metres per day).
Citing confidentiality, the head of the Ministry of Energy again refused to disclose the price of gas imported from Russia and Turkmenistan and the Ministry’s forecasts for the volume of gas exports to China for this year and next year.
Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said that Uzbekistan imported 1 million tonnes of oil and oil products this year, which is slightly more than in 2022. The country plans to increase oil imports in the future to meet the needs of its growing economy.
“Yes, [Rusya’ya]we signed it during a recent visit [to Russia]. Without volume there, the most important principle is the issue of supply. The main thing is that there are no restrictions on supplies,” he said, commenting on the signing of an intergovernmental agreement with Russia on oil supplies.
Recall that in January-September, Uzbekistan imported more gas than it exported in value terms ($487.9 million versus $411.7 million). In September alone, it imported $286.1 million worth of gas from Turkmenistan, which is 40% more than in the previous eight months.
