Uzbekistan and the European Commission discussed issues of cooperation within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor) coordination platform.

First Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Mamanbiy Omarov met with a delegation of the European Commission for International Cooperation, Trend reported on Friday.

During the meeting, the representatives of the European Commission were briefed in detail about the rapid reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in the field of transport and logistics development.

The Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan noted that the country is ready to actively participate in EU initiatives to attract investments aimed at creating a stable, reliable and safe infrastructure of transport networks. He also said that special attention is paid to projects related to the development of regional transport corridors.

The representatives of the European Commission emphasised that the coordination platform on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor is an important step in cooperation aimed at bringing Central Asia and Europe closer together.

Note that the Central Corridor connects the container rail freight networks of China and the European Union through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

The multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure connects ferry terminals in the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea to the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.

A train travelling along this corridor delivers cargo from China to Europe in 20-25 days on average, which is one of the most important advantages of this transport corridor.
