US Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed that Russia plans to transfer advanced space and satellite technology to North Korea in exchange for weapons and equipment to support Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

Speaking in Seoul alongside South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, Blinken stated, “We have reasons to believe that Moscow intends to share advanced space and satellite technology with Pyongyang.” He warned that President Vladimir Putin may be on the verge of reversing Russia’s longstanding opposition to North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

Addressing the political turmoil in South Korea following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment, Blinken expressed Washington’s “full confidence” in South Korea’s democratic institutions. “We reaffirm our unwavering support for the Korean people as they uphold their democracy in accordance with their Constitution and rule of law,” he said.

On June 19, Russia and North Korea signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, which includes provisions for mutual military assistance in the event of a defensive conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the agreement should not raise security concerns for South Korea.
