The US administration is considering possible steps against the Venezuelan authorities for their failure to comply with Washington’s demands for the release of detainees.

According to the Report, this statement was made by John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council (NSC), during the broadcast of the CBS television channel.

“I don’t want to be hasty in terms of our decision-making process, but we are looking at the options available right now,” Kirby said in response to a reporter’s question about whether the United States will tighten sanctions against Caracas again due to the failure of the Venezuelan authorities to release “political prisoners” and “unjustly detained” Americans.

“They had until the evening of 30 November to make these decisions. Unfortunately, they didn’t do that. So now we are back to the issue of possible political moves and we are looking at the possibilities. But I don’t want to be hasty,” Kirby added.
