The European Union is building a strategic partnership with Central Asia, focusing on four priority areas.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this at a press conference on the sidelines of the EU-Central Asia summit in the city of Samarkand, Trend reported on Friday.
‘Today a new chapter in EU-Central Asia relations has begun. We are launching a new strategic partnership. This means that we can rely on each other, and this is particularly important in today’s world. The political will to deepen cooperation is clearer than ever, and to kick-start this new phase, the EU has launched a €12 billion investment package under the Global Gateway programme, targeting four key areas,’ Ursula von der Leyen said. She emphasised that the first area is transport. Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU aims to bring regions closer together, and the main project is the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, in the development of which the European Union will invest 10 billion euros. This project should significantly improve transport infrastructure and facilitate trade between the EU and Central Asia.
