Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with US President Donald Trump on the phone, during which they discussed “opportunities for peacemaking” and the drafting of a document to regulate security and economic cooperation, Zelenskyy said.
The call followed Trump’s statement that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin about immediately beginning negotiations with Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy stressed the importance of international support for the preservation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Trump reaffirmed his support for Ukraine’s security and stability. Specifically, the two leaders discussed potential steps to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and achieve lasting peace in the region.
The meeting was considered an important diplomatic step in Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its relations with the West. Kyiv once again emphasized the need for the international community’s continued support for Ukraine.
