He stressed that slow arms deliveries, especially from the United States, have led to a $ 12 billion increase in military spending, forcing the country to record a deficit that other officials estimate will be slightly less than a quarter of GDP this year, or $ 43,5 billion.
Direct US military aid worth $ 27 billion was approved by Congress in April this year, but payments are moving slowly: “We still lack the necessary weapons, ammunition and shells,” Marchenko said.
