The Nur-el-Jahad power plant in Afghanistan’s Herat province has been put into operation, marking an important step in the realisation of the first phase of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line project, Trend reported on Thursday, citing official Turkmen media.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Çalık Holding A.Ş. Ahmet Çalık and Afghan representatives attended the ceremony of the start of electricity supply from Turkmenistan’s Serhetabat power plant to the new Nur-el-Jahad power plant.

The opening of the Nur-el-Jahad power plant will strengthen energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan and expand opportunities for the export of Turkmen electricity. The project is a basis for the development of the TAP power transmission line, which opens prospects for electricity transit to other South Asian countries.
