US President Donald Trump reportedly had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine, the New York Post reported. Trump quoted Putin as saying that he wanted “people to stop dying”. However, no official statement was made about the exact date and content of the call. The call between Trump and Putin comes as Russia approaches the third anniversary of its invasion of Ukraine. Kremlin officials declined to comment on the meeting, while the White House and the US State Department have not issued an official statement. However, next week, US Vice President JD Vance is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany. During the meeting, military and economic aid to Ukraine as well as diplomatic solutions for the future of the war will be discussed. In addition, the US administration is reportedly planning to offer Ukraine a $500 million economic aid package, including the supply of natural gas and rare earth metals in exchange for security guarantees. Some in Washington argue that this package could help Ukraine ease the economic burden of the war.
