The decision by Ukraine to terminate Russian gas transit to Europe is unacceptable and conflicts with its aspirations to join the European Union, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated.
Szijjarto emphasized that Ukraine, as an EU candidate, must uphold energy supply routes. He highlighted the contradiction between Ukraine’s decision and EU integration expectations. He further noted that energy supply decisions should remain sovereign and not be imposed externally.
Additionally, Szijjarto underscored that countries seeking EU membership have obligations to support the bloc’s energy security by maintaining reliable transport routes.
