The US House of Representatives will vote on Wednesday (13 December) on a resolution authorising further investigations into the impeachment of US President Joe Biden.
A representative of the Republican Party apparatus in the lower house of the US legislature spoke to Reuters, APA reported, citing TASS.
The representative thus denied MP Lisa McClain’s statement that the vote would take place on Thursday 14 December. The draft resolution will be considered by the House Rules Committee before the vote.
The resolution directs the House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Revenue and Expenditures, and Legal to continue proceedings in the impeachment case. The document was submitted to the lower house of Congress by Republican lawmakers on behalf of Congressman Kelly Armstrong.
On 2 December, Mike Johnson, chairman of the lower house of the US legislature, said the White House was preventing Republicans in the House of Representatives from investigating crimes they suspect the US leader and members of his family have committed. According to Johnson, the US administration is preventing at least two or three witnesses from testifying. In early November, Johnson said the decision to remove Biden would be made soon. Johnson added that the decision would depend on what the evidence is and “where it leads”.
Republicans have previously repeatedly said that the Biden family has received funds from companies, including foreign ones, to use political influence for their business interests. In this context, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer stressed that the incumbent US President “must answer the questions of the American people”, in particular the terms of financial deals with his brother and whether he received large sums from other relatives who collaborated with companies.
