Switzerland agreed to maintain unfettered access to the EU single market

Swiss and EU authorities have reached a historic agreement on maintaining economic and political ties after long negotiations.

As Report reports with reference to Russian media, it was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference with Swiss President Viola Amerd.

It is noted that under the terms of the agreement Switzerland will retain unimpeded access to the single market of the EU.

The agreements reached still have to be ratified by the Swiss parliament. It may also require a referendum.

In turn, the European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič noted that Switzerland under the new agreement on closer economic integration with the European Union from 2030 will annually pay the EU 375 million euros, the first contributions in smaller amounts will begin to arrive in the European treasury from the end of 2024.
