The European Union supports the draft resolution calling for easing the US economic embargo against Cuba, which will be discussed by the UN General Assembly next week.

According to Report, this was announced by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto, speaking at a press conference after a meeting in Budapest with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

Hungary called the visit historic as the last time the Cuban foreign minister visited the country was 41 years ago. The two sides signed three co-operation agreements in the fields of science, education and culture. ‘Hungary is a country with an open, export-oriented economy, it is looking for cooperation with everyone who is willing to do so,’ Szijjártó said at the signing ceremony.

He also noted that next week the UN General Assembly will consider a resolution calling for an easing of the US embargo on Cuba, which Hungary also supports. ‘Before some fanatics start saying something about Hungary’s anti-Western position again, I would like to say that this is the united position of the European Union,’ the foreign minister emphasised.
