Finance ministers from eight EU member states said sanctions against Russia should be tightened and support for Ukraine should be strengthened.
The ministers from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden published a joint article in The Guardian newspaper, Report reported.
‘All our countries have made significant contributions to Ukraine, both financially and militarily, and will continue to do so for as long as necessary. Sanctions against Russia must be strengthened – especially in the strategically important energy, financial and technology sectors, while existing sanctions must be more effectively enforced.’
The ministers argue that both the states bordering Russia and the countries from which the goods allegedly under sanctions originate should ‘continue to work to close the gaps’.
‘In particular, enforcement of the price ceiling on Russian crude oil, which continues to trade above $60 per barrel, should be strengthened,’ they said.
According to the authors of the statement, the West should ‘maintain and increase sanctions pressure while continuing to provide and increase the volume of aid to Ukraine.’
