German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has met Argentine President Javier Milei in Berlin to discuss foreign policy issues, including a free trade agreement between the EU and the South American Common Market (Mercosur).

According to the report, German cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told reporters

“The Chancellor and President Milei discussed the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries: they agreed that negotiations on the agreement should be concluded quickly,” Hebestreit said.

Argentina’s possible membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which the German government supports, was also discussed, Hebeestreit said.

Hebeestreit also noted that one of the topics of discussion was Russia’s war against Ukraine. A number of issues relating to bilateral relations, trade, renewable energy and climate change were also discussed.
