President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk. During the meeting, the protection of human rights in Kyrgyzstan and the work carried out in this field were discussed.
During the meeting, the progress made by Kyrgyzstan in the field of human rights and future steps were emphasized. President Japarov noted that his country is determined to raise human rights standards and comply with international norms. Volker Turk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, appreciated Kyrgyzstan’s efforts in the field of human rights and stated that the UN will continue to support the country in this process. Turk emphasized the need for increased cooperation, especially in areas such as women’s rights, children’s rights and minority rights. During the meeting, issues such as strengthening the rule of law and increasing the role of civil society were also discussed. The two sides agreed to develop joint projects in these areas.
