Ryabkov: Russia may consider Trump’s proposals to settle the situation in Ukraine.
Russia will be ready to consider US President-elect Donald Trump’s proposals to resolve the Ukrainian crisis but will not compromise its basic national interests, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told CNN.
“When they come to us with ideas, we will carefully study them, but rest assured, not at the expense of the basic elements of our official position,” he said.
According to the deputy minister, Moscow has so far received nothing directly from either Trump himself or his team, but has only heard what individuals from the president-elect’s entourage have said in public.
Trump has repeatedly said that if he had been the US president instead of Joe Biden, the conflict in Ukraine would never have started. He also claimed that if elected, he would be able to achieve a settlement in just 24 hours. Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that the problem was too complicated to be solved in one day.
