Russia is increasing its global influence in nuclear energy, leveraging this strategic resource to strengthen its international standing. Boris Titov, Russia’s Presidential Envoy for Sustainable Development, stated that over 10 nuclear power units are under construction worldwide, establishing Russia as a key industry player.
Türkiye’s Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant exemplifies this strategy. Built under the BOO (Build-Own-Operate) model, it enhances Türkiye’s energy security while deepening economic ties with Moscow.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, global nuclear energy production is projected to grow by 155% by 2050. More than one-third of reactors under construction worldwide involve Russian technology, underscoring Moscow’s dominance in the sector.
Despite Western sanctions, Russia is expanding into emerging markets like Africa and Asia. Agreements with Burkina Faso and Malaysia reflect Moscow’s efforts to broaden its client base.
