Uzbekistan and the state company Rosatom are currently discussing the possibility of using “dry cooling tower” technology in a project to build a nuclear power plant in the country. The reason for this is the alleged water shortage in the region. This is reported by the “Interfax” publication.
Pauline Lyon, Director of the state corporation’s Sustainable Development Department, said that negotiations with potential customers in Uzbekistan are already underway. Lyon also noted that by 2050 Uzbekistan may have a problem with water resources. The “dry cooling tower” technology eliminates this problem.
At the same time, this solution is complex and technically advanced. However, Rosatom is already working on this issue, as it will be important in the future.
The plans of the state corporation include the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, consisting of two power units with VVER-1200 reactor units. Rosatom Director Alexey Likhachev confirmed that negotiations with representatives of Uzbekistan on the construction of the power plant have reached the final stage.
