Xi chairs CPC leadership meeting to review reports, opinions

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin via video conference on January 21, 2025. Xi expressed his wish to further promote relations between the two countries in the new year. The meeting emphasized that China and Russia should jointly defend international justice and fairness. 

Xi recalled that he and Putin met three times last year and reached important common understandings. He also noted that the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations is being celebrated and that these relations are becoming more and more dynamic. Trade between the two countries is growing and there is close coordination on multilateral platforms. Putin, for his part, said that Russia and China have always provided each other with confidence and support, and that cooperation is in the interests of the two peoples and is not affected by international changes. Both leaders agreed to defend the results of World War II, jointly commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War in 2025. They also agreed to maintain strategic communication on international and regional issues.
