Russian President Vladimir Putin directed the government and Sberbank, the country’s largest bank and a tech innovator, to collaborate with China on AI development. The initiative will be led by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Sberbank CEO Herman Gref, with a progress report expected by April 2025.
During the AI Journey, an international conference held in Moscow from December 11–13, 2024, Putin emphasized the importance of advancing AI technology.
Following the conference, Putin signed a list of directives, including strengthening AI cooperation with China, integrating AI into government systems, enhancing AI education and training, hosting international AI conferences, publishing international AI journals, and establishing a platform in Moscow to showcase AI achievements.
Liu Wei, director of the human-machine interaction and cognitive engineering lab at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, highlighted the immense potential for AI collaboration between China and Russia. Both nations can leverage their strengths in areas like finance, manufacturing, transportation, and quantum computing to drive global AI innovation and applications.
