Portuguese Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel will visit China from March 24-28, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning announced on Friday.
Rangel will be the first foreign minister from a European country to visit China after the annual meetings of China’s highest legislature and political advisory body this year. Mao Ning said Rangel will conduct the second China-Portugal strategic dialogue with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. “This is the first time this dialogue will take place face-to-face. It is expected to enhance the two sides’ communication and cooperation, as well as implement important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries,” Mao said. Spokesperson Mao emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between China and Portugal, saying that friendly cooperation is the main theme of the two countries’ relations. In recent years, the political mutual trust between the two countries has been continuously strengthened and concrete cooperation in various fields has yielded positive results, which is an example of open and mutually beneficial cooperation for both sides, he said. Noting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Portugal, Mao said China is committed to deepening strategic mutual trust with Portugal, increasing friendly contacts, advancing cooperation under the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative, and developing both China-Portugal and China-Europe relations.
