The United States is in contact with the Niger authorities over the broken bilateral military agreement.
This was announced by the Pentagon in a statement to TASS.
According to the official spokesman of the agency, the US side is aware of the statement posted on Facebook by the National Council for Internal Security (CNSP), which seized power in Niger. “Following cordial high-level discussions in Niamey this week about the policy vector of the CNSP,” the US defence spokesman said.
“We are liaising with the CNSP and will provide further information as appropriate,” he added.
Earlier, Amadou Abdramane, spokesman for Niger’s military transitional government, said the country’s military had broken its military agreement with the United States.
Abdramane said the ruling military junta in Niger had cancelled the military agreement with the United States, which allowed the presence of US military and Pentagon civilian personnel in the country.
