Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has launched a comprehensive program to fight poverty in the country. The program aims to create employment opportunities and support low-income families in 6,472 neighborhoods by 2025.
Under the plan, solar power plants with a total capacity of 107 megawatts will be built in 300 neighborhoods and low-income citizens will be employed in these facilities. There will also be a system where citizens can receive subsidies by working in forest areas. Special attention will be paid to remote villages and neighborhood associations will encourage entrepreneurship in these areas. In areas with tourism potential, guesthouses and cafes will be opened to create new job opportunities. As a result of these initiatives, 210,000 people will be lifted out of poverty. All activities will be recorded on an electronic platform, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
In addition, the government of Uzbekistan will implement a new program to reduce the poverty rate from 11% to 7% over the next three years. Under this program, a system will be established to define poverty and identify individuals at risk, and support them through human centers. In his foreword to the Uzbek edition of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s book “Freedom from Poverty”, President Mirziyoyev noted the importance of China’s experience in the fight against poverty and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in this area. These steps demonstrate Uzbekistan’s determination to fight poverty and strive to raise the living standards of its citizens.
