Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership. The document was signed as part of the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Paris. The presidential press service announced that the talks were held at the Élysée Palace in narrow and broad formats.
During the talks, cooperation between Uzbekistan and France in various sectors was discussed. In particular, the sides focused on economic relations. The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded 1 billion euros for the first time in 2024, and the number of joint ventures increased fourfold. A new Innovation and Industry Partnership Program was introduced and a total investment of 6.5 billion euros is planned in key sectors such as mining, energy and infrastructure. Relations at the regional level are also actively developing. Various events with the participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan are being organized in Paris, Toulouse, Lyon and Nice. These events include a medical forum, a conference on science and education, and the promotion of the tourism potential of the Central Asian country. A bust of scientist Abu Rayhan al-Biruni was unveiled in Gretz-Armenville. In order to continue cooperation, the parties agreed to hold the first Forum between the regions of the two countries in Samarkand next year. Following the talks between Mirziyoyev and Macron, an intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of the Uzbek-French University, a readmission agreement, a program of cooperation between the foreign ministries for 2025-2026, a program of cooperation with the French Development Agency for 2026-2030, a declaration on cooperation within the framework of international organizations, a declaration on cooperation in the field of health, A number of documents were signed, including a protocol on the expansion of French language teaching, a declaration on cooperation in the fields of music, cinema and theater, cooperation agreements between the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts and the French Ministry of Culture, the French National Institute of Cultural Heritage and the French Institute for Central Asian Studies, and a protocol on the establishment of partnership relations between the cities of Tashkent and Paris.
