The World Bank will provide financial support to Uzbekistan in the form of loans worth 800 million dollars. These loans will be provided on special favourable terms and will be aimed at implementing a new stage of social, economic and climate reforms, the World Bank press service said.
Marco Mantovanelli, head of the World Bank’s office in Uzbekistan, said the money from the organisation will be used to support the Uzbek government’s priorities, including reducing state influence in sectors such as agriculture, rail transport, the chemical industry and energy.
The republic will receive the money at a lower interest rate and with a longer term than the World Bank usually offers. Savings will be able to be channelled into the implementation of priority socio-economic tasks.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan emphasised that the government aims to carry out reforms that will transform the country into a more open and competitive market economy.
