On February 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Emir of Kuwait Meshaal Al Sabah in Kuwait City. During the talks, issues of further development and strengthening of friendship and multilateral partnership between Uzbekistan and Kuwait were discussed.
President Mirziyoyev noted the successful implementation of Kuwait’s state program “Vision 2035”, noting that the goals and objectives of this program are in line with the long-term priorities of the New Development Strategy of Uzbekistan. During the talks, it was emphasized that political interactions and inter-institutional contacts are steadily increasing, mutual trade and investments are constantly growing. Last year, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and many important business events were successfully held. Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the trade, economic, investment, innovation and financial-technical sectors. Priority areas for practical cooperation were green energy, industrial cooperation, agriculture, transport and logistics, infrastructure, urban development, healthcare and tourism. In order to promote joint projects, it was agreed to establish mechanisms such as the Investment Platform and the Business Council, and to open a trade house in Kuwait City. Special attention was also paid to expanding the portfolio of projects with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development within the framework of a new Partnership Program. It was also agreed to organize cultural and tourism weeks in Uzbekistan and Kuwait, to hold cultural and humanitarian events in the fields of art, music, cinema, education and sports with the active participation of representatives of both countries. The importance of continuing mutual support within the framework of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international organizations was stressed. Joint measures for the preparation and hosting of the Central Asia-Gulf Cooperation Council Dialogue Summit, scheduled to be held in Samarkand in May, were discussed. Following the talks, the heads of state decided to develop and strengthen a comprehensive partnership. President Mirziyoyev invited the Emir of Kuwait to Uzbekistan.
