Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Wednesday that proactive steps should be taken to ensure a steady recovery of the country’s economy. Li called for continuously improving people’s welfare and ensuring social harmony and stability.
Li Qiang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with lawmakers from Yunnan province at the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, to discuss the Government Work Report. Premier Li emphasized that Yunnan has played an important role in the country’s development and that the province should seize its unique advantages. He called for deepening reform and opening-up to create new paths for high-quality development and suggested accelerating industrial transformation and upgrading. He also said that Yunnan should strengthen its global connectivity as a gateway to Southwest China. On the other hand, Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, stated in a meeting with deputies from Sichuan province that the country has continued its modernization process over the past year despite external pressures and internal difficulties. Zhao said that Sichuan is expected to contribute to Chinese modernization in accordance with its own conditions.
