The Defence Ministers of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland and Finland signed an agreement on a new joint security concept on Friday.
This was stated in a message on the website of the Norwegian Armed Forces, Report reported, citing foreign media.
The agreement envisages increased cooperation and synchronisation of the countries’ defence plans.
‘The heads of the defence ministries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway have unanimously signed an agreement on a new defence concept that provides for enhanced cooperation between our Scandinavian neighbours,’ the news report said, adding that the new concept will significantly expand cooperation between the Nordic countries in peacetime, wartime and crisis periods. Thus, the countries will synchronise their defence plans, which will help increase the number of joint exercises, operations and joint military infrastructure, among other things.
Under the new security concept, the Nordic countries also plan to pave the way for the implementation of NATO’s regional defence plans.
