China and Nauru have taken their diplomatic ties to a new level, expressing their determination to strengthen their relations and expand areas of common cooperation. The meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nauru President Russ Kun emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in the fields of economy, infrastructure projects and environmental protection. Wang Yi stated that China will provide support for Nauru to achieve its sustainable development goals, while Russ Kun stated that this cooperation between the two countries will contribute to Nauru’s economic growth. During the meeting, the issues of financial and technical support to be provided by China to Nauru’s infrastructure investments were discussed. In particular, projects such as port construction, energy projects and modernization of maritime transport infrastructure stood out as concrete examples of cooperation between the two countries. The sides also agreed to carry out joint work on combating climate change and environmental protection. China committed to provide technical and financial support to Nauru to mitigate the environmental threats faced by Pacific Island countries.
