NATO member states will hold Nordic Response 2024 military exercises in Norway, Finland and Sweden from 3 to 14 March, focusing on the defence and protection of the bloc’s northern region. This was announced by the North Atlantic Alliance press service, Report reported.

The exercise will be attended by 13 NATO member countries, 20 thousand troops, 100 aircraft – fighter, patrol, submarine and transport aircraft, and 50 ships, including helicopters, aircraft carriers, frigates, submarines and landing ships. The actions will be deployed in the northern parts of the territory of Norway, Finland and Sweden, in their airspace and adjacent sea areas, where the greatest activity will take place.

“On land, thousands of soldiers will defend the Scandinavian territories with various artillery systems, tanks, tracked and other ground vehicles,” the statement said.

“We must be able to fight back and stop anyone who tries to challenge our borders, our values and our democracy. Given the current security situation in Europe, this exercise is extremely relevant and more important than ever,” said Brigadier General Tron Strand, Commander of the Norwegian Air Operations Centre.

Nordic Response is part of Steadfast Defender 24, an ongoing large-scale exercise in Europe involving the armed forces of 31 NATO countries and Sweden.
