Rutte opposed sending NATO troops to Ukraine, but called on the alliance to continue helping Kiev with weapons. The Kremlin warned that if NATO troops appeared on Ukrainian territory, Russia’s conflict with the alliance would be inevitable.
Sending NATO forces to Ukraine to take part in the conflict on Kiev’s side is not a wise decision, alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Fox News.
“I think it would not be a wise decision,” he said in response to host’s question whether the alliance was considering deploying troops if third countries continued to support Russia in the conflict.
At the same time, Rutte noted that Ukraine will begin peace negotiations only when it feels it is in a “position of strength.” “At the moment, they [Ukrainians] are in an unfavorable position,” the Secretary General emphasized.
