The North Atlantic Alliance will start monitoring the underwater infrastructure of the Baltic Sea from December 2024 on the basis of the alliance’s maritime centre established in Finland.

As Report reports, this is reported by Helsingin Sanomat (HS).

The material notes that the Norwegian commander presented the model of the NATO maritime centre for the security of critical underwater infrastructure to international media.

According to him, to date, the work of the centre is at the initial stage, it began its work only in May.

The publication emphasises that monitoring is planned to be carried out using software that integrates Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. It records information on the ships’ location, satellite images and pipeline sensors.
