Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Swakopmund to pledge stronger bilateral cooperation. Wang highlighted the resilience of China-Africa ties despite global changes, emphasizing that Africa remains a priority in China’s diplomacy.

For 35 years, Chinese foreign ministers have begun the year with visits to Africa, showcasing China’s commitment. At last year’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, President Xi Jinping proposed 10 partnership plans to boost modernization, which Wang pledged to implement in Namibia.

Mbumba praised the enduring friendship between Namibia and China, founded on mutual respect and solidarity. He reaffirmed Namibia’s support for China’s territorial integrity, particularly regarding Taiwan. Mbumba expressed a desire to expand cooperation in infrastructure, digital economy, energy, agriculture, and education. He also supported Xi Jinping’s three global initiatives and called for continued collaboration in international and regional affairs.
