Mongolia’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Communications Baatarkhuu Tsend met with Laos Ambassador to Mongolia Hongkeo Souksavath on April 10. Mongolia’s digital transformation projects were discussed at the meeting, where the foundations of cooperation between the two countries in the field of information and technology were laid.

Minister Baatarkhuu emphasized the technological sophistication of the “e-Mongolia” system, noting that thanks to this system, his country has moved up 28 places in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI), ranking 46th out of 190 countries. Mongolia offered to export the source code of the “e-Mongolia” system to Laos and develop a new e-government platform called “e-Laos” using this infrastructure. The parties emphasized that this initiative will not only strengthen cooperation in the field of information technology, but also increase transparency, accessibility and efficiency of public services. The officials also exchanged views on sharing best practices and promoting joint work in the field of digital economy. Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa paid a visit to Laos in November 2023, followed by Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith to Mongolia in June 2024. During these visits, the two countries signed three Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of health, food and agriculture, light industry and civil service reform.
