Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on January 21, 2025 to discuss cooperation between the two countries and important regional issues.
Among the main agenda items of the conversation was the further deepening of the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia. In particular, the leaders discussed the planned Russian industrial zone on the banks of the Suez Canal and the construction of the “El-Dabaa” Nuclear Power Plant. These projects will strengthen the economic ties between the two countries and contribute to regional development. The meeting also touched upon regional issues, emphasizing the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the important role played by Egypt in this regard. They also discussed the current situation in Lebanon and Syria, other crisis regions in the Middle East. The leaders emphasized the importance of international cooperation to stabilize these regions. They also discussed the development of trade and energy cooperation between the two countries. They agreed on the need to accelerate existing cooperation mechanisms. They emphasized that Egypt and Russia can increase their influence in the international arena through greater coordination in pursuit of their common goals.
