The European Commission (EC) cannot choose which of the EU countries to cooperate with and which not.

According to the Report, Janos Boka, Hungary’s Minister for EU Affairs, commented on his page on the X social network on the decisions of EC president Ursula von der Leyen, which were designed to show Brussels’ dissatisfaction with Budapest’s actions.

Boka made it clear that the Hungarian government considers these decisions wrong.

“The EU is an international organisation created by the member states. The European Commission is an EU institution. The European Commission cannot independently choose the institutions and member states with which it wants to co-operate. Are all decisions of the Commission now based on political considerations?” – the Minister noted.

Let us recall that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, cancelled the visit of the Executive Board of the European Commission to Hungary and reduced the level of representation at the informal meetings of the European Council under the Hungarian presidency.
