Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation. According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Rubio “reported on his contacts with the US President’s special envoy S. Whitcoff and representatives of Ukraine, France and a number of other European countries.” These contacts took place in the framework of ongoing consultations between Moscow and Washington, the ministry said. In this context, US officials also held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the statement recalled. Lavrov, for his part, expressed Moscow’s readiness to work with the United States to reliably eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis.
