President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed the law on ratification of the agreement on cooperation in the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project signed in Beijing on 6 June 2024 between the Government of China, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan approved the law on 19 June 2024. The law is aimed at fulfilling the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement, the press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic said.
The railway will pass through the following points: Kashgar – Torugart – Makmal – Jalal-Abad – Andijan. Construction is expected to begin in October 2024.
The annual traffic volume is planned to reach 8 million tonnes by 2023, 10 million tonnes by 2024 and 13.5 million tonnes by 2050.
The delivery time of goods will be reduced by 7 days, and Uzbekistan will receive economic benefits from cargo transit in the amount of $ 150-200 million per year.
It is noted that the project will significantly improve export-import ties by providing transit opportunities for Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and other countries in the region and connecting China to the Indian subcontinent by railway line, which was previously possible only by sea.
The new railway will provide Central Asia access to the Pacific Ocean via China and China access to the Persian Gulf.
