Colombia’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that the impasse in the country’s relations with the United States had been resolved.
“The Government of Colombia informs you that we have broken the impasse in relations with the Government of the United States,” the document posted on social media said. The Colombian Foreign Ministry said the head of the department, Luis Gilberto Murillo, would travel to Washington “in the coming hours” to organize working meetings and exchange diplomatic notes. “We will continue to welcome Colombians and Colombians returning to the country as deportees and guarantee them favorable conditions as subjects of the law,” the message said. It also said that the Colombian government under President Gustavo Petro plans to send a presidential plane to facilitate the return of citizens who will arrive on deportation flights from the United States on Sunday morning. “Colombia declares that it will maintain diplomatic channels of communication to guarantee the rights, national interests and dignity of our citizens,” the document emphasizes.
