Colombian authorities have decided to recall the country’s ambassador to Argentina for consultations.
According to the Report, citing TASS, this is due to Argentine President Javier Milei’s statements against Colombian President Gustavo Petro, which Bogota considers disrespectful and irresponsible.
“On behalf of the Colombian government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs expresses its strongest protest against the disrespectful and irresponsible statements made by the President of Argentina, Mr. Javier Milei, against President Gustavo Petro during an interview published on January 25,” the Colombian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website. – “As a result of the circumstances created by the Argentine President’s remarks, the Colombian government immediately summons the Colombian representative in this country, Ambassador Camilo Romero, for consultations.”
Earlier, in an interview with journalist Ángela Patricia Haniot, Milei called Petro “a communist murderer who is strangling Colombia”.
“This statement attacks the honor of the first democratically and legitimately elected president. President Milei’s remarks ignore and violate the deep bonds of friendship, understanding and cooperation that have historically united Colombia and Argentina and have been strengthened over two centuries,” the statement said.
