Kyrgyzstan is considering the possibility of using the Central Corridor.
Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev made this statement on Monday at a press conference on the results of the Ministry’s work in the first half of 2024, Trend reports.
“Currently, the entire cargo flow passes through the southern corridor: cargoes are sent to Iran, from there to Turkey, and then to Europe and back along the same route. However, alternative routes are being considered that could speed up transport. One of them is the central corridor through Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and the Caucasus.”
According to the minister, these projects are being actively discussed with European partners and Central Asian countries.
It should be recalled that the Central Corridor connects the container rail freight transport networks of China and the European Union through the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.
The multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure connects ferry terminals on the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.
The central corridor facilitates increased cargo traffic from China to Turkey and European countries and vice versa.
A train travelling along this corridor delivers cargo from China to Europe in 20-25 days on average, which is one of the most important advantages of this transport corridor.
