Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas visited Bishkek on 15 January and met with President Sadyr Zhaparov. This was reported by the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan” telegram channel.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues were discussed, including priority projects, investments, financing, banking relations and regional security perspectives. In particular, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic noted the importance of the Investors Forum to be held in Brussels, which aims to develop transport links. He also spoke about the development of civil society and emphasised the importance of media freedom and unfettered access to the internet.
For his part, Margaritis Schinas expressed confidence in strengthening the financial and economic partnership and cooperation on climate projects, digitalisation and the development of transport corridors. He emphasised that the European Commission is ready to support Kyrgyzstan’s strengths in these areas.
