The second US-Africa summit on nuclear energy will take place in Kenya from 27 to 30 August.
According to the Report, the news portal Citizen quoted the following.
‘At the meeting in Nairobi at the end of August, the two sides will discuss the promotion of nuclear energy in African countries. Policymakers, technical experts and industry leaders have been invited to the forum and will participate in workshops, stakeholder engagement sessions and multi-stakeholder discussions.’
Kenya’s Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi spoke about plans to build the country’s first nuclear power plant by 2034 following a meeting with Nuclear Energy Agency Director General William D. Magwood.
Mudavadi said the government aims to commission a research reactor in the early 2030s as part of an initiative aimed at increasing power generation capacity, reducing CO2 emissions and creating more jobs.
‘Kenya is committed to becoming a leader in clean energy and is focussed on developing nuclear technology as part of its sustainable energy strategy,’ the Prime Minister said.
The first summit was held from 30 October to 1 November 2023.
