The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan has published amendments to the Agreement signed between the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan cancelling permits for cross-border road transport of goods, Trend reports.
According to the document published on Kazakhstan’s Open NPA website, freight transport between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and transit through their territory will be carried out without the need to obtain permits. The amendments are currently at the stage of public hearings, which will end on 5 September 2024.
Both governments adopted these amendments in order to create favourable conditions for road traffic between the countries. After ratification, it will take 30 days for the protocol to enter into force. Trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan continues to expand. Over the last 5 years, the volume of mutual trade has increased 4 times, and last year by 28 per cent. Trade turnover in the first 6 months of this year totalled $237.2 million.
