Representatives of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan held a trilateral meeting at the first transport, trade and export forum in Aktau, Trend reported.

According to the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan, the meeting discussed the prospects for the construction of a new railway line Turgundi – Herat – Kandahar – Spin-Buldak, which will connect the western border of Turkmenistan with Pakistan through Afghanistan and then to India.

The head of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiyev proposed joint participation in the implementation of this project. The Turkmen side has already agreed with its Afghan counterparts on the creation of a logistics centre in Turgundi and plans to start construction in the near future.

The project envisages the construction of facilities for the transshipment of grain, containers and other cargo. The logistics centre in Turgundi is expected to increase cargo turnover.

Mammetkhan Chakiyev invited Kazakhstan to participate in the construction, noting that Kazakhstan has high-quality railway bed production and other capabilities. He emphasised that the Turgundi – Herat route includes not only railway construction, but also the development of freight traffic and cargo haulage in this direction.

Afghan representatives expressed their readiness to ensure the transit of goods through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to Pakistan. They emphasised the importance of this corridor for all participants in the transport process and the interest in importing Chinese goods through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
